I want to Escape the City! What advice do you have?

Posted by daveb on July 5th, 2007

Woa there horsey! We’re just starting out ourselves and so it’s probably a little too soon to answer this one effectively. We’ll be posting our travel tips as we go along that we hope you’ll find useful.

For starters, I just finished reading The Rough Guide to the First-Time Around the World which offers guidance and sage advice for us wet-behind-the-ears types and also an overview what the various continents have to offer and how best to connect the dots. For inspiration, I really like to look at big-colour pictures of places and have found The Travel Book, a coffee table-sized book by Lonely Planet, of great use. (They also publish The Cities Book, if city-breaks are more your thing.)

Also, I was given The Lonely Planet Bluelist, a great book which collates travellers top 10 lists into categories, e.g. top 10 places to drink, top 10 places to dive, etc. For the adventure sporting amongst us (i.e. Squiffy), A Year of Adventures highlights various adrenaline-fuelled experiences and the best locations in which to experience them.
