So many names for the same place

So many namesI understand why there are so many languages in the world (Esperanto, anyone?) but I don’t understand why the same place has a different name in so many languages. I had no idea that what we know as Florence, is natively called Firenze, for example.

And for that matter, why do we call Germany, Germany? It’s Deutschland.

Hello! Do you remember the lady at the tourist office in Gruyères? I just found your address again…I am glad you enjoyed Gruyères and the chocolate factory as well as the Moleson!
I am back from Cambodia where I went to meet my son who is traveling around Asia. For sure we did have a good time, moto rides, Angkor temples, rice fields, fantastic people, lots lots of fun together.
Wish you all the best! Regards

Hi Michèle,

We sure do remember you, of course, and thanks for getting in touch.

Glad to hear that you had a great time in Cambodia — we can’t wait to get their ourselves…

Hope all is well in Gruyères and that the weather is still as sunny as when we visited!

Regards, Dave & Claire.
